Pearson and SMART Technologies share a history as innovators in the world of education. Now, together, we have created a dynamic and valuable tool for math teachers, AND we are meeting our children on their own turf - right in the middle of the digital world they live in every day.

As President Obama releases additional federal funding to help states achieve his goal of transforming America's schools, he continues his call for innovative and effective use of technology to make the nation's students more competitive globally in math and science. Directly aligned to the President's initiatives, the education services and technology company Pearson, together with SMART Technologies, announced the debut of the elementary school mathematics program Investigations for the Interactive Whiteboard today at the opening of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) annual conference.

Investigations for the Interactive Whiteboard offers teachers the opportunity to enhance Pearson's market-leading Investigations in Number, Data and Space mathematics curriculum with animation, games, and interactive learning within SMART Notebook™ software. The new offering was developed in collaboration with the Cambridge, MA-based educational research and development organization TERC, the creator of the Investigations curriculum which is currently used in all 50 states by one million students. Investigations for the Interactive Whiteboard is the first program developed for an interactive whiteboard that directly supports an inquiry-based classroom in an open, collaborative learning software program.

Pearson's Senior Vice President for Mathematics Mike Evans said, "Thousands of teachers across the country are engaging students every day through inquiry-based learning, but until now none of the major inquiry-based programs have truly leveraged the power of the interactive whiteboard." He added, "Pearson and SMART Technologies share a history as innovators in the world of education. Now, together, we have created a dynamic and valuable tool for math teachers, AND we are meeting our children on their own turf - right in the middle of the digital world they live in every day."

"Research shows that interactive whiteboards, combined with sound pedagogy increase student engagement, motivation and enthusiasm for learning," said Nancy Knowlton, SMART's CEO. "By teaming up with Pearson, we are offering educators the research-based curriculum they trust paired with our Notebook software, which sets the standard for creating and delivering engaging interactive whiteboard lesson activities."

Investigations for the Interactive Whiteboard offers a rich and engaging experience for students, providing teachers with a tool that saves them time while helping them to easily differentiate instruction on a daily basis and provide a wide variety of learning experiences that will address the needs of every student.

The Investigations for the Interactive Whiteboard program is eligible for Federal funding, including: Title I, Enhancing Education through Technology (EETT), 21st Century Community Learning Centers, and Individuals with Disabilities Educational Improvement Act (IDEA).
