Austin, TX (PRWEB) April 21, 2010
Zenoss Inc., corporate sponsor of the award winning open source IT monitoring and management solution Zenoss Core, today announced a partnership with Puppet Labs along with the delivery of an integrated open source solution for automating data center and cloud infrastructure management. This new solution now integrates the functionality of Puppet and Zenoss in order to provide users the ability to automate the provisioning, configuration and monitoring of their IT infrastructure. Packaged as a plug-in to Zenoss Core, the Zenoss Puppet monitoring ZenPack is available immediately to users of Puppet and Zenoss.
“Datacenters are seeing the need for more dynamic management - monitoring application's infrastructure needs and then provisioning and de-provisioning assets accordingly,” said Michael Cote, industry analyst at Redmonk. “What Zenoss and Puppet bring to the table each addresses a part of that new style of management, so seeing the two more closely integrated together to orchestrate dynamic datacenters is encouraging to see.”
Puppet Labs provides data center automation solutions to improve quality of service and drive management efficiencies, based on their open source configuration management tool, Puppet. Zenoss provides a commercial open source enterprise IT monitoring and management product, Zenoss Core, and Zenoss Enterprise, a fully supported IT service assurance monitoring product with additional enterprise-grade systems management capabilities. Together, Zenoss and Puppet Labs are delivering a fully integrated IT monitoring and automation solution developed to meet the needs of enterprises using both technologies.
Puppet Labs founder, Luke Kanies notes, “Puppet’s fundamental advance is its concept of a resource—it builds an abstraction over the things we need to manage, and then uses this abstraction as a kind of API into the operating system. This abstraction allows us to build truly portable configurations that work across multiple platforms. It’s gratifying to see users recognize this and use that abstraction to populate other management tools to form open source tool chains that reduce their management burden and improve effeciency.”
“This is an excellent manifestation of collaborative community development unique to open source. This solution was developed by a large enterprise user who relies on both Zenoss and Puppet to manage their large scale mission critical environment.” Said Mark Hinkle, VP of Community for Zenoss. “It is reflective of the evolution of IT management for the next generation data center that leverages open systems to create work-saving automation and customizations and reduce management overhead.”
