Six Teams Make it to NorCal Playoffs and Advanced to State Finals. SCVHA Blackhawks, Santa Clara Valley Hockey Association, announced today that the club won three division titles at the CAHA (California Amateur Hockey Association) State Finals last weekend in San Jose. The Santa Clara Blackhawks won the State Title in the Pee Wee A, Bantam A, and Bantam B divisions and took 2nd place in the Midget 16U division. In total, the Blackhawks had six teams participating in the tournament.

“It’s the first time any club in NorCal has sent that many teams in a single year. We are very proud of our teams!”

The Santa Clara Blackhawks are coming off the most successful season in the club's history. The club fielded teams in eight divisions this year: Mites, Squirt A, Pee Wee A, Pee Wee B, Bantam A, Bantam B, Midget 16U and Midget 18U. Of the eight divisions that participate in CAHA, the Blackhawks fielded teams in seven of those divisions and sent teams to States in six of those seven divisions. “Not only is this the first time the Blackhawks have sent 6 teams to States,” said Mark Keil, SCVHA President. “It’s the first time any club in NorCal has sent that many teams in a single year. We are very proud of our teams!”

The CAHA State Finals were played at Sharks Ice San Jose April 9-11. The weekend was filled with outstanding hockey from all the NorCal and SoCal teams present. “The weekend was a terrific showcase of the youth hockey talent in California”, said Siva Ananmalay, SCVHA Vice President. “And the Blackhawks were greatly represented. We had hundreds of fans there on Sunday cheering loudly for our four teams in the Championship games. It was definitely a great day to be a Blackhawk”.

While this year was an outstanding year, the Santa Clara Blackhawks are no strangers at the State Championships. “The club has sent at least one team for at least the past 17 years,” said Hal Nunn, SCVHA Director of Coaching. “And I would guess our history at States goes back even further than that. Our coaches are the best around and they proved it again this year.” Last year the Santa Clara Blackhawks sent four teams to play in the CAHA State Finals and the Bantam A team took the top spot. And in 2006, the SCVHA Blackhawks Pee Wee AA team won the USA Hockey National Championship, being the only NorCal team to ever win a National title.

The Santa Clara Blackhawks regular season has just ended but the club is already ramping up for its summer travel team, the Summer Hawks, as well as scheduling camps and skills clinics.
