Christian Hip Hop journalist Kymo Dockett has taken his extensive street experience, combined it with his love of Jesus Christ, and written a breakthrough book to guide small groups of urban youths to find a better sense of themselves.

Dockett’s book The Post Hip-Hop Generation: 20 Principles for a Successful Generation features the hip-hop drama, The Chronicles of Jamal: Hoops, Hip-Hop & Holy Hustling. This story's protagonist is a young man named Jamal, who is dealing with getting his girlfriend pregnant, losing a basketball scholarship, and the death of his brother. Jamal finds himself serving on jury duty and facing some critical decisions about his life. The story is divided into 20 parts; each part illustrates one of the 20 principles of Christianity.

“We all know troubled, at-risk youth, especially young African-American males, who feel they are looking at lives of limited potential in a dead-end world,” said Dockett. “My book offers a creative way to reach them, to guide them to the timeless principles of Christianity, and to show them how previous African-American generations succeeded.” This book is designed to be used by groups of five to twelve young people in a Post Hip-Hop Study Small Group. As groups go through the book together they learn how to apply the principles to their daily lives.

Dockett's book has many enthusiastic supporters, including Betty L. Thompson, former Missouri state representative. Thompson stated, “The Post Hip Hop Generation is a great weapon to influence a generation who has seemed to have lost a sense of direction. Overall, this book does an outstanding job helping the reader understand the times we live in so we can effectively reach the Post Hip-Hop generation.”

Harry E. Walls, III, pastor of the Christian Fellowship Baptist Church remarked, “His perspective is amazing and his imaginative, creative presentation is nothing short of enlightening. Kymo offers real-life opportunities for addressing real-life situations.” Many others, such as Dr. Cornel West and Dr. Ben Carson, have enthusiastically supported this work.
