Clemson University Athletics recently agreed to a multi-year partnership with Career Athletes. The partnership provides a national representation of unique career development resources for Clemson University current and alumni athletes. Clemson University Director of Career Services for Student Athletes, Reggie Simpkins stated, “Our goal is to provide Clemson student-athletes with the tools needed for life after Clemson. We are always trying to find cutting edge resources to assist our students at staying at the forefront of the career development process and Career Athletes is a way for us to achieve this. We feel that if our students take advantage of resources such as student athlete career related programs, the Michelin® Career Center, and new resources such as Career Athletes, then hopefully their transition from college to world of work will be somewhat easier. Also, a resource such as Career Athletes provides our alumni with a venue to receive continued career development.”
Career Athletes provides Clemson Athletics the unique ability to enhance fundraising and recruiting efforts while securing thousands of meaningful career opportunities for alumni athletes nationwide. This Online Career Community Network will provide benefits such as mentoring, professional networking, virtual career coaching and 10 years of best practices from the leading and largest career services organization assisting athletes, athletic departments and campus career centers. The Clemson University “Community Network” consists of current and alumni athletes from the institution as well as local, regional and national employers all managed and monitored by Career Athletes at its home office in the Kansas City area.
DJ Washington at Career Athletes explains that beyond an athletic department’s initiative assisting with career opportunities and educational resources, it also helps when there is already a foundation on campus toward academic success. “We are pleased to assist Clemson Athletics with its commitment toward career development of athletes, but it is also just as important to recognize the program’s culture of achievement in community service, academic performance and athletic success,” shared Washington, Vice President, Career Education and Training. Clemson is no stranger to success as indicated by additional achievements during the fall 2009 semester:
- 239 student-athletes were named to the academic honor roll (at least a 3.0 for the semester), the third highest total on record.
- 121 student-athletes were on the Dean's List, including 41 who posted a perfect 4.0. It was the fifth most Dean's List student-athletes for one semester on record.
- Programs who posted a 3.0 or better as a team were women's swimming (3.30), women's cross country (3.38), men's cross country (3.26), women's soccer (3.20), women's tennis (3.11), men's tennis (3.02), and men's golf (3.01).
Career Athletes is the leading and largest career services organization assisting athletes and expects to team up with university career centers, athletic departments and varsity clubs, particularly, during the economic downturn.
