Ensuring processes and records comply with laws and regulations alone will not keep organizations out of court, nor guarantee a positive outcome in the event of a legal dispute.

Silanis Technology, the leader in electronic signature process management, today announced that its co-Founder and vice-president, Michael Laurie, will present at Legal IT in Montreal on Monday, April 26 - Canada’s most important conference on the impact of information technologies and their potential for law. Mr. Laurie will review the best practices for deploying electronic signatures and producing strong electronic evidence in contracts and agreements.

“Electronic signature legislation has been in place for years and there is a growing body of case law on electronic records and transactions,” said Mr. Laurie. “However, ensuring processes and records comply with laws and regulations alone will not keep organizations out of court, nor guarantee a positive outcome in the event of a legal dispute.”

Following a basic overview of electronic signature technology and the business case for moving to straight-through processing, Mr. Laurie will discuss electronic signature legislation in Canada and the individual provinces, followed by a review of recent case law and lessons learned from disputes involving electronically signed records. He will then present the best practices for implementing electronic signatures and recommended protocols for staying out of court.

With more than 20 years of experience helping some of the world’s largest enterprises to deploy electronic signatures, including the U.S. Army, Mr. Laurie is recognized as an expert on enterprise solutions for the application and compliance of electronic signatures and records.

Mr. Laurie has also participated on many standards committees including the Standards and Procedures for Electronic Records and Signatures (SPERS), the National Association of Variable Annuities (NAVA), and the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA) Technology Steering Committee.
