Can solving fun word games trick the mind into learning Bible Scriptures? Guinness World Records puzzle master Timothy Parker thinks so. Parker, editor of the USA Today Crossword, Universal Crossword, and several other world-wide syndicated puzzles has crafted a huge hard-cover book, King James Games, which uses a variety of easy, medium and slightly-difficult puzzles that use Scripture verses as answers. Parker says, “Solving a fun puzzle without knowing the Scripture and concentrating on working a puzzle for five to ten minutes embeds the solution, which actually is a Scripture, deep into the mind. I’ve received enough compliments from solvers to know it works. I think it's a revolutionary concept.”
To further the learning process, Parker divided the book into chapters such as “God’s Promises,” and “Books of the Bible.” “By categorizing the puzzles, solving a puzzle in the “God’s Promises” chapter actually teaches the solver a promise of God. Now, the solver knows the Scripture, but also the significance of the Scripture. “It’s a very simple, but tremendously powerful concept” states Parker.
Count nationally-renowned leader Bishop T.D. Jakes of mega-church The Potter’s House among the believers. Jakes has his own copy and wrote the foreword for the book. Actor Clifton Davis, who interviewed Parker on national TV, called the book, “The most brilliant idea I’ve ever heard.” With 350 pages and hundreds of puzzles, the coffee-table-sized book includes crosswords, word searches, anagrams and others, all with complete instructions.
An innovative feature includes plastic sheets and a special pen to allow all members of a family to tackle the puzzles and simply erase the solution for the next person. The mega-large “generations” edition retails for $39.95 and Parker donates all his author’s profits has allowed churches and organizations to order the book in bulk at deeply reduced prices, causing the book to become one of the top fund-raising tools in history.
