Needham, MA (PRWEB) April 27, 2010
CHI's Bio-IT World Conference & Expo announced the products that won the Best of Show Awards at a ceremony held on Wednesday, April 21st at the World Trade Center Boston during the Bio-IT World Conference & Expo. The winning products include; OpenEye Scientific Software's BROOD v 2.0, Ocarina Networks' Ocarina ECOsystem release 3.1, BioFortis' Labmatrix™ v4.1, and MaxisIT's eAdaptive.
Judged by a team of Bio-IT World magazine editors and highly regarded industry experts, The Best of Show Awards recognize new products that demonstrate exceptional technology innovations across the life sciences research, discovery and clinical trials process.
This year there were a record number of entries, 43 in total. Twelve finalists were chosen, three in each category, and the following winners were selected from the 12 finalists. The winners were judged based on the products' technical merit, functionality and innovation, and in-person presentations to the judges at the show.

BROOD is a software product designed to help project teams in drug discovery explore chemical and property space around their hit or lead molecule. Brood generates analogs of the lead by replacing selected fragments in the molecule with fragments that have similar shape and electrostatics, yet with selectively modified molecular properties. BROOD fragment searching has multiple applications, including lead-hopping, side-chain enumeration, patent breaking, fragment merging, property manipulation, and patent protection by SAR expansion.
Ocarina Networks' ECOsystem is a primary deduplication and compression platform that works transparently with existing storage systems to shrink data, improving storage utilization by as much as 10x depending on application. Deployed as an appliance co-processor to storage, ECOsystem is designed for high-performance, cost-effectiveness, end-user-transparency, and ease of use. The Ocarina ECOsystem operates as a post-process to optimize files based on user-specified policies such as file type, age, or location. The Ocarina appliance reads files from the existing online storage, optimizes them, and then writes the optimized files back into the same storage system or to a different archival target.
Labmatrix™ is an electronic data management and exploration platform for bioscience research and translational medicine studies. It is agnostic to therapeutic area or technology application; electronic data from any technology platform can be managed in Labmatrix, which can also interface with other upstream or downstream digital systems, such as clinical applications (e.g. electronic medical records and clinical trials systems) and research applications (e.g. genomic or proteomic databases and LIMS). End-user access is delivered via a secure, scalable server-to-thin-client (web browser) model for intranet and internet access.
eAdaptive enables midcourse monitoring and adaptive decision-making in an integrated environment; enables review and analysis of a study or a group of studies under program/s within therapeutic areas; addresses the need of analyzing transcending effect caused by interwoven relationship of the planned adaptation within clinical design or operations. Together with the other CT Renaissance™ suite products supports enterprise wide trials enabling integration and exchange of information with peripheral clinical applications.
ABOUT BIO-IT WORLD CONFERENCE & EXPO
Since its debut in 2002, the annual Bio-IT World Conference & Expo (http://www.bio-itworldexpo.com) has established itself as a premier event showcasing the myriad applications of IT and informatics to biomedical research and the drug discovery enterprise. The Conference attracts a highly influential audience consisting of senior level scientists, IT professionals and Executives from organizations across the life sciences industry including Pharmaceutical, Biotechnology, Health Systems, Academia, Government and National Laboratories. In 2009, over 1500 delegates representing 24 countries gathered to share information and discuss enabling technologies that are driving the drug discovery process. The event features concurrent tracks with 100+ technology and scientific presentations.
