Multi-Tech Systems, a world leading manufacturer of cellular modems for M2M (machine-to-machine) communications, unveiled its Cellular Development Platform for embedded solutions at the Embedded Systems Conference in Silicon Valley on April 27. Original Equipment Manufacturers, needing to quickly package a communications-enabled solution for their customers, can streamline this process by leveraging the Platform and Multi-Tech’s SocketModem® line of ready-to-integrate embedded cellular modems.
Before committing to a final hardware design, this platform allows OEMs to network sensors and create gateway access to the internet via the cellular network. Integrating their software applications into Multi-Tech's reliable, globally-approved cellular device platform eliminates the need for mixing and matching various hardware pieces, greatly reducing the complexity and cost of solution development and minimizing the need to pursue carrier and regulatory approvals.
“Our Platform saves on development time, but it can also help create a better, more robust offering. Since the selection of the system’s building blocks is provided, developers are freed to focus on their product’s core function and features while determining the best way to leverage the real-time data generated from the solution,” said Jim Cairns, Vice President of Marketing and Business Development.
The Platform uses Linux-based open source software, minimizing the expertise needed to bring a solution to market. Furthermore, there is no need to build code and write low level drivers for the hardware components, saving considerable time and resources.
Ideal for virtually any M2M application, the Platform is set for general availability in May, 2010.
