- An estimated 25% growth in enrollment and revenues up to $825,000 due to better service to transfers and first-time freshmen - Significantly greater effectiveness and efficiency in enrollment management
San Diego, CA (PRWEB) April 28, 2010
Record enrollments on-campus and online and a 20 percent spike in student transfers highlight the successful technology partnership between Eastern New Mexico University and Strata Information Group, Inc. (SIG).
The results of this public-private partnership are detailed in a case study, which is available on the SIG Corp. website.
Despite a tough state and national economy, and in the face of stiff state budget cuts, ENMU in Portales, N.M. has enjoyed consecutive semesters of record student enrollments. ENMU President Steven Gamble cites enhanced student services, faculty commitment and the expansion of technology access – on-campus and via online coursework – for the boost in enrollments from 3,500 in 2001 to all-time record enrollments of 4,685 in fall 2009, and 4,359 in the spring of 2010.
Gamble credits SIG with assisting in the development of greater technology efficiencies within the SunGard Banner® Enrollment Management Suite. These efficiencies, including workflow, document management and greater accountability, have helped pave the way for more students to enroll and learn at ENMU.
Other successful results of the ENMU-SIG partnership include:
- An estimated 25% growth in enrollment and revenues up to $825,000 due to better service to transfers and first-time freshmen
- Significantly greater effectiveness and efficiency in enrollment management
“Workflow is about change. It’s about modifying established practices that are not efficient,” says the ENMU president. “SIG is helping us do this so we’ll meet our mission of providing the best academic access, opportunities, and services to our students.”
ENMU had used SunGard Banner® for about 10 years before working with SIG, but the university wasn’t using the tools to their full potential. Faculty did not have access to student records. The system was inefficient and frustrating. ENMU invited SIG to assess the situation, find solutions with the SunGard Banner® suite to streamline the enrollment process and create a better environment for prospective and existing students.
“We have grown from 3,580 students in 2001 to 4,685 students in fall 2009,” Gamble says. “A lot of that has been as a result of technology, including online coursework, and the efficiencies gained through better usage of the Banner system.”
“Our student transfer numbers are above 20 percent higher than last year,” Gamble says. “Aggressive recruiting and our focus on branching out to places like Arizona and Texas for more students has helped. We would not have been able to reach out to these potential students unless we improved the enrollment process in a big way.”
Gamble says the decision to partner with SIG has made enrollment management more efficient and effective, and provides a successful foundation for growth and more progress in the future.
“We are a long way from perfect, but without the efficiencies we have made through the years, we would not have achieved the nine-percent growth we enjoyed during the current year,” he says. “Even with deep state budget cuts, we believe we are well poised for the future because of our technology efficiencies.”
