As global text message usage skyrockets, the demand for cost-efficient, international and platform-agnostic solutions has increased. textPlus allows friends and family to connect the way they want, at a price that makes sense.

GOGII's textPlus app, which offers free one-to-one, group and Community texting, announces strong growth numbers today. Since launching on the Apple App Store in June 2009, the app has been downloaded six and a half million times, and its network of users, which includes non-app users who interact with the app via text, has skyrocketed to over 18 million. GOGII is backed by Matrix Partners and the $200 million iFund, a joint investment venture between Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers and Apple.
The textPlus app is free to download for iPhone, iPod touch, iPad and Android phones. The textPlus 60611 short code allows users to text for free in the U.S. and Canada, and its app-to-app texting functionality is free to use worldwide. Over two billion messages have been sent to date within the textPlus network, with volume averaging 16 million messages daily and half a billion each month. Users spend over an hour a day using the app.
"The app has proven powerful across all ages and in markets worldwide," said GOGII CEO Scott Lahman, formerly of JAMDAT which was acquired by EA. "As global text message usage skyrockets, the demand for cost-efficient, international and platform-agnostic solutions has increased. textPlus allows friends and family to connect the way they want, at a price that makes sense."
In February, GOGII launched its 60611 short code in Canada, making it possible for users to text for free in and between the U.S. and Canada. As a result, textPlus use in Canada increased tenfold, and the app was catapulted to the #6 position on the Canadian Apple App Store. In April, the app launched an optimized app for the iPad, which was named an Apple "staff favorite" the day it debuted, and today remains the #5 social networking app for iPad.
textPlus has also debuted textPlus Communities, which serve as mobile chatrooms. Community topics range from the practical to the social, and used by everyone from video gamers to new moms.
What's next? textPlus plans to debut on Blackberry in the coming months, which will even further expand the breadth of its cross-platform, free international texting reach.
textPlus can be downloaded from the Apple App Store here and from the Android Market.
textPlus brings ad-supported real texting and group texting to the iPad, iPhone, iPod touch and Android phones through both its mobile application and permanent short code, 60611. textPlus is carrier and Mobile Marketing Association (MMA) compliant and enables seamless interaction between textPlus application users and their friends using regular text messaging (SMS).
GOGII (go-jee) is a mobile communications technology company and creator of the textPlus app. GOGII is a U.S.-based startup backed by venture capital firms Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers and Matrix Partners. GOGII was founded in 2007 by the three founders of JAMDAT Mobile, the leading mobile entertainment publisher that was acquired by Electronic Arts in 2006.
