Developer’s Goal to Build Tradition Center for Innovation Into a World Class Biotech Cluster

Mann Research Center (MRC), a research and development project located in the Tradition Center for Innovation (TCI) at Tradition, has appointed Andrew Favata as Vice President. In this position, he will have many roles, which include overseeing and directing the development of the 410,000 square foot Mann Research Center as well as recruiting life sciences organizations to the Tradition Center for Innovation.

Favata was also recently appointed as director of Florida Innovation Partners, an organization formed by TCI’s anchor institutions—Torrey Pines Institute for Molecular Studies, Oregon Health and Science University’s Vaccine and Gene Therapy Institute in Florida, Martin Memorial Health Systems and Mann Research Center——to strategically direct TCI’s growth and to promote the commercialization of new discoveries made in the research park.

“Andy was instrumental in his previous management position at Core Communities in recruiting world-class biotech companies and scientific talent to form the heart of Tradition Center for Innovation,” said John DelRusso, President of Mann Research Center LLC. “In his new role, he will assist with the evolution of the park into a biotech cluster focused on taking innovations from the lab to the marketplace.”

“He’s a talented organizer who has brought in the right people,” said Jay Nelson, founder and director of the Vaccine & Gene Therapy Institute. “He will also be critically important once building construction has started, helping us make sure that the subcontractors and everybody else hits their mark.”

“Andy helped develop Tradition into one the fastest growing cities in America. He understands how to design and construct scientific facilities and will be a tremendous force for growing the Tradition Center for Innovation quickly and strategically,” said Larry Pelton, president of the Economic Development Council of St. Lucy County.

Prior to his position at MRC, Favata spent eight years as Executive Vice President of Core Communities, LLC where he oversaw and directed all commercial development projects for the 8,200-acre master planned community of Tradition. These life science, commercial and residential projects are valued at over $1 billion and exceeded 7 million square feet. He was instrumental in attracting the biotech, life science and research institutions that now anchor TCI, in addition to Digital Domain, a digital animation studio.

In the next 20 years, the research and commercial endeavors Favata helped bring to TCI are expected to generate more than $6 billion in gross state product, $400 million in state revenues and 9,000 direct and indirect jobs.

Favata’s 15-year history in development began locally as a senior project manager for the School Board of St. Lucie County in 1995. He then worked as a business development and project manager for W.G. Mills, Inc., a construction management and general contracting company in West Palm Beach before joining Core Communities in 2002.

Favata received a Bachelor of Science in Building Construction from the M.E. Rinker School of Building Construction at the University of Florida. He is a member of BioFlorida, the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties (NAIOP), the Urban Land Institute (ULI) and is a Certified Development, Design and Construction Professional (CDP). Favata is a State of Florida Certified General Contractor.
