Contributions have surpassed the halfway mark towards its goal!

The Kawasaki Disease (KD) Foundation and Nicole Hershman-Daniels are pleased to announce that the 1st Annual Kawasaki Disease Fun Day “Quest for a Diagnostic Test” has received over $13,000 in donations and contributions surpassing the halfway mark to its $25,000 goal. KD Fun Day is a benefit to raise money for the University of California San Diego Kawasaki Disease Research Center’s efforts to create a vital diagnostic test.

The latest efforts achieved, according to Hershman-Daniels have been momentous and humbling. “I am incredibly grateful and humbled at the level of humanity of our community.” said Hershman-Daniels. The most recent notable donations have been from North County House of Motorcycles and Land Rover Miramar

North County House of Motorcycles donated 100% of the proceeds from the opportunity drawing held on their May 1st “Spring Action Sports Expo” event. The day was filled with top-of-the-line products, prizes, amazing motorcycle stunts and a special appearance by freestyle motocross racer Carey Hart. Their generosity to the benefit is greatly appreciated.

Land Rover Miramar donated $1000 to the cause even after their allotted charity funds had been depleted. A Land Rover Miramar representative personally presented the check to Hershman-Daniels at her home and is promoting the Kawasaki Disease Foundation and event on their Web site.

The generosity and kindness of local Southern California and San Diego and businesses has been overwhelming. There truly is so much compassion in our community and across the nation. We have received thousands of dollars in donations from families from New York to California. With amazing sponsors such as North County House of Motorcycles and Land Rover Miramar, we are cultivating not only new friendships but awareness for Kawasaki Disease which is the pinnacle of every minute I spend campaigning.

A new addition to the fun day is popular teen celebrity Jonah Bobo as the MC for the event. Jonah has become known to children through his voice work as Austin in The Backyardigans and The Fox and the Hound 2. He has also been seen on the big screen in Zathura: A Space Adventure, The Best Thief in the World, Around the Bend and Choke. Jonah enjoys helping out with a number of charities and has close ties with Team Continuum and Project Sunshine. After learning about the seriousness of Kawasaki Disease, Jonah happily volunteered to be part of the Kawasaki Disease Fun Day. Daniels and the KD foundation are thrilled to have him on board.

KD Fun day will take place at Stagecoach Park in Carlsbad, CA on Saturday, May 8, 2010 from 2 PM – 6 PM. The cost of the event is $10.00 per person to be paid on-site and all money raised will go directly to the KD Foundation to fund the diagnostic test. The event will be a day of fun activities for families and children of all ages.

Some of the local vendors that will be at the event with performances, goods or interactive sessions include Chick-fil-A at Quarry Creek, Playball, Hullabaloo, JW Tumbles – Rancho Bernardo and The Jumpitz. This fun-filled event will feature face painting, balloon animals, opportunity drawings, silent auction, prizes, giveaways, entertainment and food for family and friends.
