The people, the passion, and the flavors that flow through Mexico have always been the inspiration in my cooking. My goal is to preserve their craft and bring the most bona fide Mexican dining experience to San Antonio.

In a town where Mexican food dominates cuisine, celebrated Chef Johnny Hernandez is redefining the culinary landscape with his latest achievement, La Gloria Ice House. A truly authentic interior Mexican food experience, La Gloria Ice House is inspired by and glorifies the richly diverse street foods of Mexico.
At La Gloria, diners will experience the culmination of Chef Hernandez’s culinary expertise, his extensive knowledge of Mexican cuisine and enthusiasm for all things Mexico. Hernandez spent his early career in some of the finest restaurants across the country including the Mirage Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada and the Four Seasons Biltmore in Santa Barbara, California. He is also the owner of nationally recognized True Flavors Catering and started the popular MesAlegre Chef’s Table at the Pearl Farmers Market. In 2009, Chef Hernandez opened Market Depot, the first café-style restaurant at Port San Antonio.
Influenced by his extensive travels throughout Mexico, La Gloria features Mexican dishes as diverse as the regions where they were first born. The menu includes local favorites such as tacos de trompo al pastor and quesadillas, as well as harder to find specialties such as tlayudas from Oaxaca, panuchos from the Yucatan and volcanic molcajete dishes served simmering at your table. The menu will also feature a select choice of fine tequilas, mescals, and rums.
No detail was overlooked when designing La Gloria. Chef Hernandez’s dedication to create an authentic look and feel is apparent in every facet of the restaurant, from the hand-crafted metallic tables and chairs to the deco agave plants and mariachis.
"The people, the passion, and the flavors that flow through Mexico have always been the inspiration in my cooking. My goal is to preserve their craft and bring the most bona fide Mexican dining experience to San Antonio.” said Chef Hernandez. La Gloria embodies the heart and soul of the artisans and street vendors that Chef Hernandez encountered on his countless excursions to Mexico.
Located on the grounds of the historic Pearl Brewery, La Gloria occupies 7,000 square feet of interior and exterior space overlooking the San Antonio River. La Gloria was designed to resemble the original Pearl Brewery ice house and in concept is a nod to San Antonio’s ice house tradition.
La Gloria Ice House is located at 100 E. Grayson, San Antonio, Texas. Operating hours are Sunday through Thursday 11am through 10pm, Friday and Saturday 11am through 2am. For more information, visit the restaurant’s web site at http://www.lagloriaicehouse.com.
