During the month of April Arizona Central volunteers, as part of the Central Cares volunteer program, worked to clean the environment and help raise funds for children in need. As Arizona Central strengthens its involvement in the community, it will provide assistance to various areas in need including its most recent focus on children and the environment.

In observance of Earth Day, Arizona Central arranged its first litter pickup throughout the state. Arrangements were made with Flagstaff, Show Low, Glendale and Phoenix city offices to clean up litter in these communities. Central Cares volunteers dedicated two Saturdays toward helping clean up. Volunteers picked up a total of about 90 bags of litter. “It’s amazing the various types of litter that people throw outdoors!” said Tiffiny Plasencio-Howard, community development liaison and volunteer for Arizona Central. “Whether we’re picking up cigarette buds or furniture, it all makes a difference. It's so fulfilling to be a part of the solution to litter in our communities!”

Also in April, Arizona Central participated in the Crisis Nursery’s 98.7 The Peak’s Crusade for the Kids Radio-A-Thon. Central Cares volunteers helped accept donations by answering phones at the phone bank. A total of 300 phone calls were received, bringing in a total amount of $47,496 for Crisis Nursery. “I left with tears in my eyes!” said Anna Lechuga, an Arizona Central employee and volunteer. “I couldn’t help but to call in and also donate toward this cause. Thank you Arizona Central for this experience!”

Crisis Nursery exists to provide hope and support to children threatened with abuse, neglect or homelessness. For more information, visit or call (602) 273-7363.
