Tier1 Research is expanding its coverage of hosting, managed services and cloud computing with the appointments of Agatha Poon as Regional Manager for Global Cloud Computing and Douglas Toombs as Senior Analyst, Managed Services and Cloud Computing.
Agatha Poon is Tier1 Research’s new Research Manager for Global Cloud Computing. Ms. Poon has been a market research professional for 12 years, and has been a regular speaker at numerous professional gatherings and industry events, including PTC, CommunicAsia, BrightTalk and Cloud Computing Expo. Ms. Poon’s expertise in cloud computing and enterprise network migration strategies, as well as the enterprise market segment overall, will be an important addition to Tier1 Research. She will be commenting on the strategies, business models and coverage of the leading global and regional telecommunications carriers and managed service providers as they relate to their cloud computing strategies.
Prior to joining Tier1 Research, Ms. Poon was a Senior Analyst at Yankee Group for more than 10 years, tracking a wide range of research topics, including managed services, IP telephony, WAN optimization, application acceleration, cloud computing deployment models and cloud management solutions. Before Yankee, she worked as a research analyst in Frost & Sullivan’s Telecommunications Service group, where she primarily focused on network access technologies. Ms. Poon holds B.A. and M.B.A. degrees in Marketing from Ohio University. She was awarded a full scholarship for the MBA program at Ohio University
Douglas Toombs is Tier1 Research’s new Senior Analyst covering Managed Services and Cloud Computing. He is an IT industry veteran with over 20 years of experience.
Prior to joining Tier1 Research, Mr. Toombs served as a Principal Engineer for SevenSpace and Sun Microsystems. During this time, he was responsible for mission-critical high-availability applications and infrastructure for their clients, as well as developing ITIL-based tools and business processes to streamline operations and improve availability. Prior to SevenSpace and Sun Microsystems, Mr. Toombs worked at hosting providers ServerVault and PSINet as their principal Microsoft platforms architect. In addition to a distinguished technical background, Mr. Toombs brings a long history of publishing experience to Tier1, having been a Contributing Editor for Windows IT Pro magazine for 14 years. He has won two awards from the American Society of Business Press Editors for his work, and has published several books on Microsoft technologies. Mr. Toombs holds a B.S. degree in Business Information Systems, and an ITIL V3 certification.
