Dr. Robert D'Alfonso attended the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry's® (AACD) 26th Annual Scientific Session in Grapevine, Texas from Tuesday, April 27 through Saturday, May 1, 2010. The AACD performs as the world's largest international dental organization dedicated to advancing excellence in the art and science of cosmetic dentistry through responsible esthetics; Dr. Robert D'Alfonso involves himself as an active member.
"Contemporary cosmetic dentistry is a comprehensive approach to total oral health care that combines art and science to achieve optimal dental function, health and esthetics," AACD member Dr. Robert D'Alfonso said. "The annual AACD scientific session is the world's premier venue to get the in-depth training necessary to stay up-to-date in cosmetic dentistry and ultimately provide the best care to patients in our community."
Dr. D'Alfonso previously passed a rigorously written accreditation exam; now, AACD recognizes him as a "sustaining member." Currently, only a few such members exist in the greater Austin area. The written exam was developed to test knowledge on all aspects of cosmetic dentistry, to certify the dentists who call themselves "cosmetic" dentists exercise a solid understanding of all it entails.
Comprised of over 6,000 cosmetic dental professionals in 70 countries around the globe, the AACD operates as the world's largest non-profit membership organization dedicated to advancing excellence in comprehensive oral care that combines art and science to optimally improve dental health, esthetics and function. The AACD offers superior educational opportunities; promotes and supports a respected accreditation credential; serves as a user-friendly and inviting forum for the creative exchange of knowledge and ideas; and provides accurate and useful information to the public and the profession.
To verify a dentist's skill in cosmetic dentistry, the AACD recommends that patients ask about the following items before undergoing treatment.
Ask to see the dental office's before-and-after photos, carefully examining the dentist's treatment results on other patients to make sure his or her work fits your dental needs.
Request client references from the dentist, developing a sense from other patients as to what level of quality care the dentist provides.
Validate that the dentist functions as an active AACD member, consistently attending continuing education courses to keep up-to-date with the latest techniques in clinical cosmetic dentistry.
