African Well Fund Celebrating Bono's 50th Birthday With Zimbabwe Well Fundraiser

African Well Fund allows U2 fans to honor lead singer Bono's 50th birthday by donating to a well project in Zimbabwe. The project will provide clean water and sanitation to more than 2200 people.

To mark Bono's May 10th 50th birthday, the African Well Fund (, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded by U2 fans and dedicated to the mission of funding water and sanitation projects in sub-Saharan Africa, is raising money to fund a project in Zimbabwe. The $50,000 project will benefit 2,200 people in the Buhera district of Zimbabwe, a region severely impacted by cholera.

The African Well Fund began collecting donations for the eighth annual Build a Well for Bono's Birthday, a 50-day fundraiser, on March 22. To give as many fans as possible the opportunity to take part in this fundraiser, and add their birthday wishes to Bono on a card that will be sent to Principle Management, the African Well Fund will continue to accept donations through May 15th.

Donations from the seven previous Build a Well for Bono's Birthday fundraisers have totaled over $170,000 and have been used to fund water and sanitation projects implemented by African Well Fund partner Africare to benefit more than 28,000 people in Angola, Ethiopia, Liberia, Uganda and Zimbabwe.

Since its founding in 2002, the African Well Fund has raised more than $700,000 to fund more than 200 projects in 13 African nations, benefiting more than 260,000 people.
