Holy Fire Publishing (http://www.christianpublish.com) releases Possum Pals: Lessons in Proverbs (Paperback, U.S. $12.75, ISBN: 9781-60383-238-0). Lisa Evonne Turner’s first book in the series, titled Pals Be Yourself, uses Proverbs to encourage children to value their God-given differences, to base their self-esteem on God’s truth, and to know that, sometimes, it is necessary to rely on friends to get back on track. Turner’s critters demonstrate biblical lessons through entertaining stories enhanced with winning illustrations.
Children will meet the Possums, PV and BJ, and, along with their pals, learn lessons from the Bible. The Possum Pals find themselves in various dilemmas, and in this first tale, Country Kitty is fueled by curiosity and dives impulsively into the pond. The splash sends Sammy Swims out of the water and onto the dry shore, endangering his very life. Sammy’s disastrous end is averted by Leggs the frog who comes to the aid of his pals and tosses Sammy back into the pond.
Turner’s critters find themselves in various trials and situations where they make mistakes and correct themselves or each other. Stories teach that consequences come from actions. Parents will learn methods to instill positive, Godly ways to handle the tough situations that children may encounter.
“My desire to use lessons from Proverbs combined with animal characters was inspired by God several years before I wrote the first story. I learned valuable life lessons through the very issues demonstrated in the Possum Pals stories. My love of nature and admiration of God's handiwork, along with God’s gift of storytelling, combined with my desire to tell children of God’s love for them, resulted in these children’s picture books. Possum Pals, Lessons in Proverbs is a series of tales about the critter Pals. Pals Be Yourself is the first story [in the series] and there will be plenty more books to come.”—Lisa Evonne Turner
