To raise awareness and funds for breast cancer, Flemings Hotel, Mayfair, has created a Pink Tea with 20% of the cost going to the Breakthrough Breast Cancer charity during the month of May 2010.

I am personally pleased that Flemings is supporting these worthwhile fundraising initiatives. With one in nine women diagnosed with breast cancer and 35 women dying daily from this disease, this is a cause close to my heart.

Flemings ‘Pink Month’ has been inspired by the ‘Breakthrough Booby Birds’, a group of high achieving women who are confronting their deepest fears by participating in an exhilarating tandem parachute jump on 22 May 2010. Each ‘Booby Bird’ has committed to raise £20,000 to help fund vital breast cancer research. The ‘Booby Birds’ were founded by Tina Korup, whose best friend Christine Tulloch was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Priced at £39.50 per person, the Pink Afternoon Tea at Flemings London Hotel includes a glass of Perrier-Jouët Rose Champagne, sandwiches, scones with rose jam, pink macaroons, pink cupcakes, Battenburg cake and a selection of teas. The Pink Tea is served in the stunningly flamboyant Front Room and the glamorously chic Cocktail & Tea Rooms, both of which have been newly refurbished.

The Pink Tea will also become the theme for Flemings’ floral display in the Floral Design Marquee at RHS Chelsea Flower Show, 25 – 29 May 2010. London overnight stay packages for two people sharing a Classic Room at Flemings are available on 27 or 28 May 2010 from £453 including tickets to the world renowned show and the Pink Tea for two people.

In addition to the Pink Afternoon Tea and hotel overnight package, guests ordering selected menu dishes including the pink inspired Raspberry and Pistachio Parfait, created by Head Chef Simon Henbery, will contribute to Breakthrough Breast Cancer. Other pink touches include Flemings flying an eye catching pink flag outside the hotel on the streets of Mayfair, the male staff wearing pink ties and exquisite pink floral displays.

Commenting on these initiatives, Simon Scarborough, General Manager of Flemings, said: ‘I tragically lost my mother to breast cancer two years ago, so I am personally pleased that Flemings is supporting these worthwhile fundraising initiatives. With one in nine women diagnosed with breast cancer and 35 women dying daily from this disease, this is a cause close to my heart.’

Almost £25,000 was raised on 28 April 2010 through ‘A Pink Fashion Tea’, which was sponsored by and held at the 129-room Flemings London Hotel and featured a spectacular fashion show organised by Amanda Wakeley and a silent auction. Other sponsors included Asprey and Mumm Champagne. Every penny raised goes directly to Breakthrough’s pioneering work in life-saving research, campaigning and education. So inspirational was ‘A Pink Fashion Tea’ and its emotive and passionate speakers that three of the women attending the event decided to join ‘Booby Birds’ next year and jump out of a plane to raise funds.
