Earlier this week, Prestwick House Punctuation Practice (http://www.prestwickhouse.com) from the SMARTBoard-Enhanced Presentations series was named a finalist for a DAA award from the Association of Educational Publishers (AEP). Award winners will be announced in June at AEP's annual Educational Publishing Summit in Washington, D.C.

This is the fifth consecutive year that Prestwick House products have been nominated for this distinguished award. This year's contender is the Punctuation Practice presentation from the SMARTBoard-Enhanced Presentations line of products.

As a part of their mission to support publishers of supplemental instructional materials, AEP boasts the longest-running recognition program in the publishing industry. According to AEP representative Stacey Pusey, "These prestigious awards grant the recipients not just the satisfaction of work deemed in highest regard by experts in the field, but the right to display the trusted Lamp of Learning logo, a 'seal of approval' that notifies customers and clients that excellence has been discovered, rewarded, and announced."

"Helping teachers is the reason we exist as a company, so we spend a great deal of time interacting with teachers to focus on their needs in the classroom," says Prestwick House General Manager, Keith Bergstrom. "Recognition from the Association of Educational Publishers helps to reinforce this important goal and ensure that we are providing well-made, comprehensive teaching materials."

Over the past 27 years, Prestwick House has become one the leading publishers of educational materials in the country by consistently developing new products for English teachers. In recent years, a focus on technology in the classroom has led Prestwick House to publish more e-products like SMARTBoard Presentations and Lead-Ins to Literature presentations, as well as a line of inexpensive eLessons available online for immediate download.

"As a part of our technology initiative, we created SMARTBoard Presentations to help teachers make use of the existing advantages of group learning." says Prestwick House Staff Writer, Daniel Reed. "By interspersing interactive exercises into our SMARTBoard-Enhanced Presentations on grammar and writing, we've added to the already existing student benefits of watching, critiquing, and correcting the process as it happens."

Along with Punctuation Practice, SMARTBoard-Enhanced Presentations are also available in Parts of Speech, Improving Sentences, Proof Your Writing I, Proof Your Writing II, Revising Paragraphs, and Writing Descriptive and Narrative Paragraphs. All seven presentations bring a new level of interactivity to the classroom as students become actively engaged in the lesson -- dragging punctuation into place, rearranging sentences, and revealing answers.

Offered in CD-ROM format, these presentations are easy to edit or print for handouts, allowing teachers to pick and choose slides and to work at their own pace. This year's nominee, Punctuation Practice, helps students understand proper punctuation through detailed practice with eight of the most common problems.

Currently, Prestwick House has over 160 products on its production schedule this year and continues to find new tools to help teachers in the classroom. These include the upcoming Vocabulary Power Plus and Vocabulary from Latin and Greek Roots Test Generators, a line of Teacher's Editions to accompany their best-selling Literary Touchstone Classics series, and Rhetoric, Logic, and Argumentation, a book that prepares students to be better consumers and producers of persuasive messages.

Plans for future projects include a new AP Language and Composition guide, a complete Vocabulary Power Plus for the ACT series, and Levels of Understanding, a series of title-specific literature guides based on Bloom's taxonomy.
