Ecological Design and Consulting Experts to Help U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Restore Great Lakes

Ecological design and consulting firm Biohabitats to help the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers with projects related to the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative, the largest multi-year, multi-agency plan to restore the Great Lakes in U.S. history,

Biohabitats, Inc., (http://www.biohabitats.com) one of the nation’s leading ecological design and consulting firms, was awarded an Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity contract to help the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) with its efforts related to the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI). The largest multi-year, multi-agency plan to restore the Great Lakes in U.S. history, the GLRI will address the region’s most significant problems, including pollution, contamination and invasive species. President Obama approved $475 million for this initiative for 2010 alone.

“We’ve been restoring resilient ecosystems for more than a quarter of a century, so we’re eager to apply our expertise to this generation changing initiative,” said Biohabitats president, Keith Bowers. “By using our approach of regenerating natural systems, the Corps can enhance the long-term ecological health and adaptability of the Great Lakes while also improving human and economic well-being.”

The majority of Biohabitats’ work for this five-year, $12 million contract will be performed within the boundaries of the USACE’s Buffalo, Detroit, and Chicago Districts.
