At Ross School of Business’s annual Michigan Capital Growth Symposium, Bodega, a presenting company, announced that Bodega and Beer2Buds are partnering to allow users to be able to buy their friends a beer. Bodega is a virtual goods marketplace that launched a Facebook application called Bodega Shop. Beer2Buds allows friends to buy each other beers, even if they live far away from each other. Users can now use BodegaBills, Bodega’s virtual marketplace currency, to buy beer for their friends.
Libby Tucker, the founder of Beer2Buds, came up with the concept when a friend sent her a virtual beer through email. She thought that if she could really drink that beer, it would be a great gift. She created Beer2Buds out of that concept. Now, friends can share a beer, despite being hundreds of miles apart, using Beer2Buds.com.
Beer2Buds is also launching a new Facebook application and iPhone application to allow users to buy beers for their friends. Bars can also use an iPhone app that Beer2Buds launched in July 2009 to validate the beer coupon.
Because users can use virtual currency to buy real beer, the Bodega and Beer2Buds’ partnership will create a whole new aspect to Bodega’s Marketplace.
“Bodega's brilliant virtual currency trading platform will allow for more awareness about virtual-to-real world goods,” Tucker said, “We believe we can help co-promote the two programs in a way that is beneficial to users by giving them outlets for their virtual currency. Bodega's founder and CEO, Mark Sendo, has a background in the payments industry and his vision is in alignment with a real, current need.
Sendo said, “The Bodega Marketplace on Facebook will allow branded goods to have a life of their own. On Bodega Shop, it can be freely traded and will create more clicks and views for a good that would otherwise die.”
Tucker said that Beer2Buds created a virtual-to-real gifting platform that will expand beyond beer, but no goods have been specified yet.
“Bodega allows you to use and trade your virtual currency outside of the game world. Beer2Buds allows you to use that currency for real world goods,” said Tucker.
