Recently Expanded Company, Dog Gone Taxi, Earns Intermediate Handler Status

Seattle-based Dog Gone Taxi, a professional ground pet transportation company that recently expanded into the Portland and San Francisco areas, has announced its certification as an Intermediate Handler (#91-T-0010) with the USDA (United States Department of Agriculture). The company works with national and international pet shippers on the west coast by handing the drop-off and pick-up from airports in the entire state of Washington and the areas surrounding Portland and San Francisco.

Companies that are involved in any way in the transportation of regulated animals as part of its business operation must be licensed as a dealer or registered as an intermediate handler or carrier with the USDA. The USDA maintains strict requirements which must be met prior to certification and inspections are done routinely to ensure that the companies they certify are adhering to these obligations.

Asked why this certification is so important, Dog Gone Taxi owner, Rebeca Berni, had this to say: “People are understandably nervous when transporting their pets, either nationally or internationally. We felt that the validation of our services by the USDA will provide pet owners with a comfort level much higher than they would have with an uncertified carrier. ”

When asked about the pets they transport, Berni went on to say: “The relocation or transportation process can be traumatic for pets as well. All of our employees are dedicated to making the experience as easy as possible for the pets, as well as their owners.”

This certification not only helps put pet owners at ease about the level of service they will receive, but protects them from the many scams that are being perpetrated by uncertified or unlicensed handlers.

Dog Gone Taxi transports its clients’ pets in non-smoking vehicles, with a safety barrier between the drivers and pets. Background checks are performed on all of the company’s pet-friendly drivers prior to their employment. Pets can ride in a kennel provided by their owners or in the comfortable padded cargo space in each vehicle. Pet owners need not be home at the time of pickup, as long as specific instructions are provided.
