SCHMIDT® Technology Corporation has introduced a new tool through their website to make press selection easier and more intuitive. The tool works by guiding the user through a simple step-by-step selection process based on the application in which the press will be used.
The Press Selection Assistant has been in development for several months, and was just released to the public in late April. "We've found that a customer is familiar with his or her application, but is in need of better ways to find the right solution to assemble it," says SCHMIDT® Technology Corp. President Martin Frischknecht. "We realize how much of a challenge choosing a press can be, particularly for someone who might not be familiar with the many different press types."
During the press selection process, users are helped along the way by general videos of typical press applications and photos of specific assemblies that match the application type selected. For example, if a user chooses the "Press fit, Insertion & Assembly" application option, they'll see that's the perfect fit for bicycle pedal assembly, battery terminal assembly, or pressing bearings inside an alternator, among other applications.
The selection process starts with the user choosing how the press would be used for their application. For instance, they can choose between press fit, insertion and assembly, bending, forming, crimping, staking, compliant pin and more. Then they are shown a list of specific examples of applications that fall under that category.
Once they find the application that closely matches their task, they are then able to input the specific requirements of their project, including force, working stroke, working height, production rate, monitoring and more. According to their requirements, they are presented with a list of appropriate press models for their needs.
