Our mission is help government professionals working to meet the mandates of Executive Order 13514 find green solutions.
Alexandria, VA (PRWEB) May 14, 2010
The Center for Environmental Innovation and Leadership (CEIL) announced today the launch of a new, one-of-a-kind event: The GOVgreen Conference and Exposition taking place November 9-10, 2010 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, DC. Targeted to government professionals charged with developing and implementing green programs, GOVgreen will provide extensive educational programs and an exhibit hall devoted to green products and solutions. GOVgreen is free to federal and military employees.
“The federal government is at a crossroads,” says Robert Harar, CEO of the Center for Envrionmental Innovation and Leadership. “Agencies are mandated to meet aggressive new environmental standards and managers have a critical need for information about green products and services. Our mission is to facilitate that information exchange, both through our CEIL knowledge center and at the GOVgreen Conference and Exposition.” Harar successfully launched both the FOSE and GovSEC expositions, both targeted to government professionals.
Located in Washington, DC, to provide easy access for the widest range of government professionals, GOVgreen is nonpartisan, representing no one point of view, interest group or agency. Programming focuses on energy, transportation, conservation, facilities and workforce management and will present best practices and case studies drawn from across the federal government and, where applicable, from state and local governments and the private sector.
Under Executive Order 13514, signed last November, federal agencies are mandated to comply with a broad range of sustainability targets. Meeting those mandates requires agencies to develop and implement green programs and practices agency-wide. The Center for Environmental Innovation and Leadership (CEIL) provides ongoing interaction and information sharing through CEILeadership.org. The site also agregates enviornmental news targeted to the specific areas addressed by the Executive Order, including:
- Federal Workforce & Workplaces
- Facilities Design & Maintenance
- Transportation & Alternate Fuels
- Conservation (Water, Waste Management, Recycling)
- Energy Efficiency & Renewable Energy
- Procurement & Products
“There is so much information available through government and private sector sites that it can be overwhelming. Our mission is to provide a top-level view of relevant information organized into focus areas that align with the Executive Order,” says Ann Seltz, President of CEIL. “In addition, our site offers group and forum capabilities that allows government professionals to problem solve with their peers in a secure environment. Finally, the GOVgreen Conference & Exposition provides educational networking opportunities, coupled with the access to leading green products and services.”
