Scottsdale, AZ and San Antonio, TX (PRWEB) May 16, 2010
GlobalMedia Group, a pioneer in the development of video imaging and visual communications solutions for telemedicine applications, today unveiled its new FirstAV™ system that combines a wireless, military-grade, handheld tablet computer with its wearable TotalExam™ S-Video camera to aid in real-time medical triage or technical troubleshooting. The device is being debuted as part of the 2010 American Telemedicine Association’s (ATA) Annual Meeting and Exposition in San Antonio, TX. It will be available in Q3.
FirstAV is the first system of its kind to put behind-the-scenes personnel in the field with first responders by providing a bird’s eye view of the sights and sounds as they happen utilizing standards based PC video conferencing applications, like Polycom PVX and CMA, CISCO’s MOVi, Skype, Vidyo or GlobalMedia’s EasyShare® VC.
The camera—about the size of a dry erase marker—mounts onto any military, police or fireman’s helmet or hardhat and provides clear video or still images as it happens. Using available 3G or 4G cellular or 802.11 wireless networks, the FirstAV tablet transmits the video, images and sound—in real time—to a designated triage or technical command center. Behind-the-scenes personnel can analyze incoming images and provide triage treatment instructions to first responders in the field, or prepare appropriately for the patient’s arrival.
For Triage and Troubleshooting
“The FirstAV solution is the first and only system utilizing standards based video conferencing that gives behind-the-scenes personnel the ability to look over the shoulder of field personnel—to see and hear exactly what they experience as it happens,” said Joel E. Barthelemy, founder and managing director of GlobalMedia. “It provides unprecedented visibility and insight into the situation to aid in first responder emergency triage, or even technical troubleshooting scenarios.”
For virtually any kind of technical troubleshooting situation, the FirstAV enables central support personnel to provide real-time assistance to on-the-ground technicians. This extra pair of eyes and ears speeds troubleshooting and repair and can reduce downtime. This is especially beneficial in remote locations, such as oil rig platforms, manufacturing facilities, and other applications where critical operations are impacted and quick and accurate repair is vital.
Rugged Technology for Accurate In-Field Visibility
The TotalExam camera mounts quickly and easily on a helmet or hardhat for hands-free image/audio capture; an adjustable swivel mount enables the wearer to position it properly to capture the best view. The camera may also be detached for handheld use and is held like a pencil. The fine-focus camera has the ability to focus down from infinity to an image 2.5” (6cm) away.
The military-grade interface tablet, manufactured by General Dynamics, runs GlobalMedia’s EasyShare VC or any other video conference software to capture and transmit the images. When cellular or wireless networks are unavailable, the tablet stores the data for later transmission when a signal becomes available. The dual-touch interactive screen is rugged and easy to use, even while wearing gloves. And built-in GPS tracks the location and positioning of the user, making it ideal for rescue operations.
“This system is designed for reliable performance in tough situations, from battlefield and emergency response to harsh environments,” Barthelemy said. “It dramatically expands the capabilities, resources and effectiveness of first-response teams who can now receive real-time support from behind-the-scenes.”
GlobalMedia representatives will be on hand at Booth #1533 at ATA 2010 May 16-18 to offer live demonstrations of the FirstAV system.
