BAE SYSTEMS has selected a miniature, multi-functional SpaceAge Control air data probe for the HERTI unmanned air vehicle (UAV). The air data probe gives a full suite of air data parameters in a small package with low power requirements suitable for the 20-hour flight times of the HERTI UAV.

The miniature SpaceAge Control air data probe offers key benefits over traditional and in-house developed air data solutions including low mass (6 ounces) and single-point total pressure, static pressure, angle-of-attack, and angle-of-sideslip data gathering. The product, initially developed in concert with NASA, addresses the unique requirements of unmanned aerial vehicles and light aircraft to include deiced pitot-static capability, small packaging, and easy installation.

"BAE SYSTEMS selection of this air data probe solution continues our strong relationship with BAE SYSTEMS," said Misael Vera, Operations. Vera added, "The HERTI UAV was the platform we had in mind when we produced this multi-functional solution."

The BAE SYSTEMS HERTI is a reconnaissance UAV. HERTI stands for "High Endurance Rapid Technology Insertion." The HERTI system offers a flexible solution, providing high-quality imagery using a safe, reliable platform, able to integrate seamlessly with current and future information networks.

BAE Systems is the premier global defense, security, and aerospace company delivering a full range of products and services for air, land and naval forces, as well as advanced electronics, security, information technology solutions, and customer support services.

Established in 1968, SpaceAge Control is an ISO9001:2000/AS9100B-compliant company leading the air data and displacement sensing industries with stock and engineered-to-order products. Typical air data products provided include pitot probes, pitot-static probes, air temperature sensors, angle-of-attack sensors, static pressure ports, and flight test air data booms. Located in Palmdale, California USA near NASA Dryden, Edwards AFB, Lockheed Martin Skunk Works, and Scaled Composites, SpaceAge Control's high-precision and durable products are used by over 200 companies spanning the globe including aircraft manufacturers, racing teams, vehicle manufacturers, and motion control OEMs.
