LLamasoft, the leading provider of supply chain strategic planning solutions, was selected by the Partnership for Supply Chain Management (PFSCM) to assess the antiretroviral (ARV) distribution network in Nigeria. (http://www.pepfar.gov/)
The assessment is supporting SCMS, a project funded by the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), SCMS brings together 13 private sector, nongovernmental and faith-based organizations that are among the most trusted names in supply chain management and international public health and development. SCMS procures essential medicines and supplies at affordable prices; helps strengthen and build reliable, secure and sustainable supply chain systems; and fosters coordination of key stakeholders.
To deliver this assessment, LLamasoft consultants assessed the feasibility of establishing regional warehousing hubs. Using LLamasoft’s Supply Chain Guru software, the consultants identified the optimal number and locations of regional hubs, infrastructure requirements, human resources, budget needs, and overall management structure to be operationally effective.
Once logistically ideal locations were established, the consultants conducted on-site visits to determine the suitability and viability of each warehouse for storing ARVs. Each warehouse was evaluated based on space, quality standards, and safety.
This is LLamasoft’s first collaboration with SCMS, building upon previous related experience with organizations such as USAID, The World Bank, and The WHO, and continuing to establish LLamasoft as a premier provider of Public Health supply chain solutions.
