in Mike Rubel’s premier children's book ‘Big Feet, The Story’

he will probably grow to be a very large giraffe with feet that big

A coming of age tale, Big Feet, The Story warmly blends the hard lessons of growing up in the African safari with the life lessons of love, perseverance and the importance of being an individual. Mike Rubel's first children's book is both enjoyable and educational for young readers.
Set on the plains outside Pretoria, South Africa, the story uses rich, authentic language to paint the setting for the giraffe herd led by Mombato, the proud, but stern father of the book's hero Guruto. The tale begins as the first trace of morning sun illuminates the eastern horizon. Botora, wife of Mombato, gives birth to their first offspring Guruto, which means early sun. Although Guruto is in-line to become the herd’s next leader, his physical maladies may impede fulfillment of the young giraffe’s foretold destiny.

At the beginning, Guruto’s large hooves seem like a promising trait; "he will probably grow to be a very large giraffe with feet that big," his father pontificates. The interesting thing, however, is that his feet continue to grow as he gains weight and Guruto becomes a very powerful young giraffe. His hooves are so powerful they cause the ground to shake which scares the elders, as well as his father Mombato. It is at this point that Big Feet, The Story launches into a journey of self-discovery, loneliness and friendship.

Complete with lush illustrations of the African wilderness, Big Feet, The Story is a perfect addition to a child’s growing book collection and helps teach perseverance despite temporary rejection. For more information on this Xlibris release, interested parties may log on to Xlibris.com.
