Glenview, IL (PRWEB) May 20, 2010
Tuesday, May 25, is approaching as fast as a jazz-swing beat, as the Glenbrook South (GBS) High School Music Department prepares for its annual blockbuster free jazz concert. Beginning at 7:30 pm in the high school’s outdoor courtyard, “An Evening of Jazz Under the Stars” will recognize some of the area’s most talented young musicians. The concert will showcase the GBS Jazz Lab Band, Jazz Ensemble, Jazz Combo, and Scat That!, under the direction of bandleaders Greg Wojcik and Mark Toliusis and choral director Mrs. Stevi Marks.
To add to the evening’s celebration of rhythm and sound, the jazz bands will welcome a special appearance by the nationally acclaimed Paul Wertico Trio, including Grammy-award winner and Chicago drummer Paul Wertico, guitarist John Moulder, and bassist Brian Peters. All three are accomplished composers and performers who, through their instruments and their spirit, show deep appreciation of jazz.
According to band director Greg Wojcik, “Any jazz fan will recognize the musical talent in our students. To listen and play among great musicians is an honor for them and a singular
experience for the whole audience.” Paul Wertico is best known for his 18 years as a drummer in the Pat Metheny Group, where he earned national acclaim, including eight recordings, several gold records, and seven Grammy Awards. He left the band in 2001. The Paul Wertico Trio serves as a model of stellar jazz musicianship and an inspiration for up-and-coming student musicians.
Admission to “An Evening of Jazz Under the Stars” is free to the public.
