Ocean Voices Sponsor, SchoolMessenger, Honors Educator with VIP Trip to San Francisco for Inspiring Students to Lend Their Voices to Ocean Conservation

SchoolMessenger, a leading provider of parent notification services for schools and districts, today announced the Grand Prize winner of its Ocean Voices Classroom Contest. Teacher Angela Rizzo from Southwestern Elementary School in Hanover, Indiana, will receive an all-inclusive VIP trip for two to San Francisco to attend a special debut performance of the Ocean Voices project on June 3 at the San Francisco California Academy of Sciences. The event, which celebrates World Oceans Day and the 100th anniversary of Jacques Cousteau's birthday and is sponsored by SchoolMessenger, will feature a global collection of voice recordings set to music in which participants share their thoughts, stories and experiences about the ocean.

In addition to her trip, Ms. Rizzo's students who participated in the Ocean Voices project will receive free movie passes. SchoolMessenger will also donate a two-year subscription of Classroom Messaging to Southwestern Elementary School, which will allow teachers to communicate timely information directly to students and parents at home.

"We are very pleased to honor Ms. Rizzo with our Grand Prize, and applaud her for encouraging students to lend their individual voices to support ocean conservation," said Kent Lowry, chief executive officer of SchoolMessenger. "As Ocean Voices strives to rally a global community around its cause, our contest was designed to inspire students in the classroom to do the same. We hope to demonstrate to students that expressing their personal message today can have a tremendous influence on our oceans tomorrow."

SchoolMessenger's Ocean Voices Classroom Contest was designed to honor educators who inspire exploration, study and protection of our natural world. To participate, each student created a short online audio recording to share their personal experience, thoughts or stories about the ocean. Some voice recordings will be consolidated into the musical composition that debuts in June, while others may be featured as an online audio collage or showcased in museums and education institutions worldwide to help spread the word in a unique and personal way.

Ocean Voices is a collaboration between marine biologist Dr. Wallace J. Nichols and sound artist Halsey Burgund. SchoolMessenger's Ocean Voices sponsorship and Classroom Contest are designed to create awareness around a spoken word and musical project aimed at opening minds and expanding understanding about the world's oceans.
