We have created a new phenomenon in photo sharing: social storytelling
San Francisco, Calif. (PRWEB) May 19, 2010
Scrapblog™, the leading online service for social storytelling through photos, today announced several new features for its popular Facebook photo sharing application, Share the Love. Updates include community features, new weekly content, high-resolution print-at-home capability, and more ways to earn experience points (XP) to "level up" in the game.
Scrapblog recognizes that people are sharing photos with their friends on Facebook, and other social networks, more than ever. 2.5 billion photos are uploaded every month to Facebook, now making it the largest photo site on the web by a wide margin. Following this trend, in a recent study by Scrapblog of more than 750 people across the U.S., respondents who were involved with social networks reported uploading photos to those sites, on average, nearly twice a week. People are also craving more social interaction when sharing those photos with friends and family; for example, the same study showed that commenting on others' photos or receiving comments on their own was more than three times more popular than printing the photos.
"We have created a new phenomenon in photo sharing: social storytelling," said Jill Braff, CEO of Scrapblog. "Just as Zynga showed that social gaming was a vastly different kind of gaming with mass appeal, we recognize that the way people share and use their photos has changed. Share the Love keys in on the fact that people are on Facebook to connect with friends and family, seeking immediate feedback about their everyday lives. They share photos constantly, as the moment happens, and care far less about printing than the comments they receive. Our app helps people create a simple narrative around their photos and the fun game mechanics keep them coming back."
Share the Love automagically creates a unique collage in seconds by pulling in a player's photos, or photos they are tagged in, and displays them using a selection of coordinated stickers and backgrounds. Players can edit the instant collage using a wide assortment of free and for-credit digital content to create a more personalized design, or start from scratch by picking their favorite theme and selecting the photos they want to feature. New content is updated weekly to keep collages fresh and timely. Once complete, the collage is ready to share.
In addition to sharing their collages with friends and family on Facebook, players also can connect with others in the Share the Love community using the familiar "like" and comment features found on Facebook. For the times users want to print, there is now an option to print a high-resolution version of a photo collage at home. Share the Love is the first and only application on Facebook to offer do-it-yourself, high-resolution home printing for personalized photo creations.
In only the last month, Share the Love has grown over 5X in traffic, effectively proving the power of socially connecting through photos.
Earn Reward Credits and Experience Points
Share the Love's competitive game mechanics inspire users to keep creating with new content and reward them with experience points (XP) for frequent use and collaboration with each other on the creative process. Earning XP results in unlocking exclusive content, such as premium stickers and backgrounds, which can then be added to photo collages to further customize and personalize the creation. It also rewards players for broadening their sphere of friends with whom they share.
Players earn XP and level up in the game simply by using the application. For example:
- One of a player's Facebook friends begins using Share the Love
- A player tags a friend in one of her photo collages or is tagged in a friend's photo collage
- A player uses more premium themes, stickers and backgrounds when saving and sharing a collage of her own
