The cost of healthcare is out of control. Brandi Funk is a nurse practitioner, patient advocate and healthcare writer who brings 17 years of healthcare and research experience to her quest to aid consumers. “It is my deep desire to help Americans find more affordable healthcare and to prepare them for a new health care delivery system,” says Funk. She adds, “This is not enough. As a family nurse practitioner, I want to be an agent for changing our current health care model from disease management to a model of wellness and anti-aging using research from integrative medicine and genetics. This revolutionary shift will greatly lower the cost of medical care.”

As a healthcare professional, Funk became increasingly frustrated with the current American model of treating illness with expensive and often toxic drugs and with little focus on health promotion. She says, “I watched my patients struggle to find affordable healthcare and reliable medical information. My own mother refused to get emergency care because she thought she couldn't afford it. I left my position 6 months ago to write and publish "Cut Your Health Care Costs Now!" to help Americans find affordable healthcare. It was my vision to take this big, fragmented, confusing topic and turn it into a ‘Dummies' style book, easy to read and understand.”

In her book, available in paperback and e-book formats, Funk provides over 150 direct web links to assist readers and unveils some of the worst healthcare practices and how to remedy them when they affect you and your family. Examples of Funks findings include, “Hospitals overcharge Americans at least $10 billion a year,” and the fact that, according to the US government, “...seventy percent of uninsured children are eligible but not enrolled in public insurance programs.”

Additional statistics that Funk uncovers in “Cut Your Healthcare Costs Now!” include:

  • “14,000 Americans lose their health insurance coverage every day.” -- Bureau of Labor Statistics
  • “Half the families who file for bankruptcy do so, at least in part, because of health care debt." Harvard University, Joint Centers for Housing Studies
  • “About 90% of all medical bills have errors.” -- Harvard researcher and healthcare fraud expert Malcolm Sparrow
