Barbara Beves, a 61 year old Inala resident, was given notice that she was being evicted from her home of 22 years, as the owner planned to develop the property. A frail pensioner, the sudden news of her eviction left Mrs Beves fearing that she would be left homeless and fending for herself on the streets.
Mrs Beves has had six heart bypass surgeries, and problems with her lungs mean that she must be connected to an oxygen machine 16 hours a day. She takes comfort in her beloved three Maltese terrier dogs, Brooke, Ricky and Dino who are like children.
‘‘I’ve contacted four real estate agents and they’ve told me I do not fit the criteria for another rental because of my finances and the dogs,’’ she said.
‘‘If I can’t have my babies with me then I’d rather not be here.’’
Thankfully, officials from the Queensland Department of Communities offered Mrs Beves a one-bedroom home in Oxley.
The team at Your Local Movers, after hearing of the plight, were moved and were quick to offer their services free of charge to assist Mrs Beves in her relocation.
“We are only too happy to help Barbara, providing our full moving service including packing, boxes, bubble wrap and packaging, transport and our handyman service to set up everything in her new home.”
“Your Local Movers is in the business of moving fragile items, and nothing is more precious than our elderly. We are really happy that we will be able to help Barbara during this tough time.”
Barbara broke down when she heard the news of the community support.
“I can live again,’’ she said. ``You find out who your friends are in these situations.
“A lot of people have been so kind to me.
“I love them for what they’ve done for an old lady and I can never repay them, but I am so grateful.”
Your Local Movers is a carbon neutral company, and they are also great supporters of Brisbane based children's charity, Be a Hero Australia. They are constantly on the lookout for ways they can support the local community.
“We take corporate responsibility very seriously, we are all about helping our local community.”
