Dayton, OH (PRWEB) May 22, 2010
On April 15, 2009, DeMarcus Cousins signed his Letter of Intent with Kentucky after John Calipari was hired there. Cousins had first committed to University of Alabama at Birmingham, UAB, on February 28, 2008 but never signed a letter of intent because he wanted to be released if UAB's head coach, Mike Davis, left for another school, but the school refused to comply with this condition. After Cousins decommited to UAB, he then committed to Memphis on March 9, 2009 while Calipari was still there. Once Calipari left Memphis, Cousins followed.
During his year at Kentucky, Cousins averaged 15.1 points, 9.8 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per game. With his team, Cousins and Wall led the Wildcats to the Elite Eight of the 2010 NCAA Tournament before losing to the West Virginia Mountaineers. After playing his freshman year, DeMarcus Cousins decided on April 7, 2010 to enter the NBA Draft. Cousins is expected to be a first round selection.
During high school, DeMarcus Cousins averaged 24.1 points, 13.2 rebounds, 4.6 assists, 3.2 blocks and 5.1 steals per game his senior season. He earned the Parade and McDonald's All-American honors in 2009 and was member of the 2009 USA Junior National Select Team.
