It’s a great way to squeeze a volunteering holiday into your schedule
New York, NY (PRWEB) May 25, 2010
InterExchange Working Abroad has just announced the addition of a new Summer Camp Assistant in Ecuador program.
The Summer Camp Assistant in Ecuador program is unique in that it places participants in English-teaching volunteer assignments within a relaxed and fun summer camp setting in scenic Ecuador. Participants spend 2-8 weeks assisting staff camp counselors with English tutoring, sports and art activities for Ecuadorian kids and teenagers.
“This is an educational program for both the kids and the participants,” says Tara Cavanagh, Program Manager for InterExchange Working Abroad. “Kids get to practice their conversational English, plus the program participants also learn a lot about the local culture and get a chance to practice their conversational Spanish as well.” As volunteers, participants on the program can join the campers for other cultural and entertainment activities organized by the camps, such as day trips, museum visits, hiking, biking and horseback riding. Participants stay in dormitory-style camp housing with other camp staff, or they can opt to stay with local host families.
“This program is ideal for active, social people who love to travel and really like working with kids.” Cavanagh adds, “You can choose to stay anywhere from 2 to 8 weeks, so it’s a great way to squeeze a volunteering holiday into your schedule.” Current placements are in Quito, Ecuador, where summer camp assistants are needed between mid-June and mid-August. February and March 2011 placements will be announced soon for a second camp location in the Galapagos Islands. The Summer Camp Assistant in Ecuador program is the latest addition to InterExchange Working Abroad’s current roster of volunteer and teaching English programs in South America. Additional programs are currently available in Argentina, Chile, Costa Rica and Peru.
