As the National Hardware Show opened in Las Vegas on May 4th, Pat Farrah, Co-Founder of The Home Depot cut the 65th Anniversary cake during the Grand Opening Ceremony. Organize.com helped kick off the show as they hosted the first live Twitter and Facebook Party at a national trade show.
Deborah Shearer, Vice-President of Marketing and Merchandising at Organize.com, along with the Virtual Party Team of Allie Wandner, Steve Guthrie and Allison Mercadefe hosted a real-time Twitter and Facebook Party live as the show opened at the Las Vegas Convention Center. As a guest speaker, Shearer delivered a case study on The Power of Social Media and offered retailers ideas on how to use social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube, to drive more sales to retail stores and businesses.
“Social media has become such a phenomenon, and the National Hardware Show is glad that we are offering attendees ‘real life applications’ of how to use Twitter to drive more sales in their stores,” said Ed Several, Group Vice President & Show Manager, National Hardware Show. “The National Hardware Show has aggressively gone out and found industry experts to share how to use social media to help grow your business and we're glad we can offer these seminars free.”
Organize.com delivered over 500,000 invitations to inboxes of subscribers and gave away over $5,000 in prizes. According to Terry Shearer, President and Founder of Organize.com, “The Live from the National Hardware Show Virtual Party attracted more than 1500 virtual guests and generated over 3,500 online interactions between Facebook and Twitter combined. The numbers are remarkable and the return is more than the dollars. It shows our influence as industry experts, which brings new customers to our site.”
Attendees, including Cynthia Evans, Senior Vice President of ICD Publications, Peter Giannetti, Editor-n-Chief of Home World Business and Charles Evans, Sales Executive for Gourmet Insider, were given a back stage pass to how a virtual party works, as well as given the opportunity to tweet or leave a Facebook comment on the spot from their cellular phones.
“Social Marketing is powerful, it’s contagious and it brings measurable results. Long before social media was the latest buzz word in marketing, people asked each other for advice before they made purchasing decisions. Fast forward to today where everyone has a voice through social media websites, blogs, and chat rooms and you can see what the power of social media really is today,” says Deborah Shearer.
