Ticket sales have been brisk for the upcoming opening of the most eagerly awaited theme park in recent memory. “The Wizarding World of Harry Potter” will celebrate its grand opening within the Islands of Adventure theme park on June 18, and the staff at The Official Ticket Center in Orlando, in between processing ticket sales, has been quizzing each other about Hogwarts Castle, the Village of Hogsmeade and the Forbidden Forest in anticipation of the event.
“I walked into the office the other day and heard the staff talking about toadflax, goutwort and grommel,” said Patrick Pulliam, owner of The Official Ticket Center, a family owned and operated business which sells discounted Disney tickets, passes and upgrades to Universal Studios, Walt Disney World and other area theme parks. “Fortunately, I’m a huge fan, so I knew all the references,” he added.
“It’s a very exciting time for Harry Potter fans,” said Pulliam. “We’ve been talking with longstanding customers and helping first-time customers choose the best ticket packages so they’ll get the best value for their dollar and ensure that they’ll have plenty of time to visit the new theme park.”
The Harry Potter books have sold over 400 million copies and have been translated into almost 70 languages. Pulliam estimates his company has already sold tens of thousands of tickets in both individual sales and bundled packages that include entry into Universal Studios, where the Harry Potter fictional world is painstakingly recreated through architecture, rides, shops and restaurants.
The most popular ticket package for individuals, couples and families eager to visit the new Harry Potter theme park as well as other Disney attractions is The Walt Disney World Magic Your Way Base Ticket with Hopping, which allows admission on the same days to Animal Kingdom, Magic Kingdom, Epcot and Universal Studios. Tickets are good for either two, three or four days, depending on the package selected.
The Official Ticket Center is also running a pre-arrival Universal Studios Orlando online ticket special, where visitors can purchase a Universal 2 or 3 Day Park to Park Ticket and receive one day free. The special also includes a bonus offer where kids receive an “eat free” card with the purchase of a multi-day Universal Studios children’s ticket.
Universal Orlando Resort theme parks include Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios.
Pulliam, who received a sneak peak tour of the theme park, said it remains true to the look and feel of the blockbuster films. “The Harry Potter story lends itself very well to a theme park,” he said. “You can immediately identify some of the most famous locations. A theme park has various sections, or lands, devoted to telling a specific story. The lands contain all the physical elements support the story.”
