U.S. Foodservice Provides Produce Food Safety Expertise to Restaurant and Hospitality Industry Leaders

U.S. Foodservice continues to share its expertise on produce and other food safety topics to further improve the safety of the international food chain.

U.S. Foodservice’s premier food safety and quality assurance expert, Jorge Hernandez, will be participating with the National Restaurant Association for a panel entitled “Enhancing the Safety of Fresh Produce” during the annual NRA Show 2010. The panel takes place during the conference on Sunday, May 23, from 12-1:30 p.m. in room S403B at Chicago’s McCormick Place.

Led by produce industry and foodservice experts, panel session attendees benefit from the discussion by learning about the latest improvements in the rapidly-changing food safety environment. Panel topics include GAP (Good Agricultural Practices) audits, product testing, food safety innovations, the interface between food safety and environmental sustainability, national legislative activity, FDA rule-making and industry initiatives to develop comprehensive food safety standards, and other key topics. Moderated by Robert Whitaker, chief science officer, Produce Marketing Association, panelists in addition to Hernandez include Suresh DeCosta, McDonald’s corporation, and Tim York, president, Markon Cooperative, Inc.

“There is heightened consumer and industry awareness of the safety of the produce we consume every day,” said Hernandez, senior vice president of food safety and quality assurance for U.S. Foodservice. “U.S. Foodservice continues to share its expertise on produce and other food safety topics to further improve the safety of the international food chain.”
