Audiofy Corporation today announces the Audiofy app is currently available in open beta.

The Audiofy app, a store and audiobook player in one, makes buying and listening to books on Android powered devices easy and fast. Audiobooks in the Audiofy store will be available to consumers through the Audiofy app on Android powered devices such as Google's Nexus One, enabling customers to browse and purchase over 13,000 titles. Audiofy’s app supports the purchase, secure distribution and playback of both DRM-protected and DRM-free audiobooks. Through the app customers can search for, purchase and begin listening to an audiobook on either 3G or WiFi in seconds– far faster than any other audiobook solution on the market today.

Android™ sales are explosive with over 65,000 devices being sold a day. Gartner estimates that the Android platform will be the largest smartphone solution by 2012. Canalys reports an estimated eight million Android devices sold in 2009 making Android the fastest growing solution in the mobile market. Fueling that growth in part is Android Market™. Android Market is an open marketplace, which currently offers over 50,000 apps.

Daniel Wagaman, Audiofy's president, remarked: "We are excited to be offering our audiobook service to Android™ users. The Audio Publisher's Association forecasts that consumers in the $2B audiobook market are rapidly transitioning to digital solutions. Audiofy is working to deliver a better way for mobile consumers to discover, purchase and enjoy audiobooks."

ABOUT ANDROID

Android is a complete, open mobile phone software stack. It includes everything a manufacturer or operator needs to build a mobile phone. Android is available as open source via the Apache v2 license, and it was designed from the ground up to enable the best user experience possible on a mobile phone. It leverages web and Internet content to provide advanced services such as mobile mash-ups and location-based applications for example.

By creating a complete platform where the mobile device is open and integrated with the Internet, everyone in the mobile ecosystem will benefit:

  •     OEMs and carriers will be free to customize the platform to bring innovative new handsets to market faster and at a much lower cost.
  •     With a broader baseline set of functionality, developers will be free to focus their efforts on innovative and differentiating features.
  •     Consumers will enjoy a better user experience with more mobile choices and applications, making their day-to-day lives more productive and enjoyable.
