Mark Hobson Appointed Country Manager for Fairfax Business Media Asia

Fairfax Media Financial Review Group Chief Executive Officer, Michael Gill announced on Monday the appointment of Mark Hobson as Regional Manager of Fairfax Business Media, Asia. Effective immediately, Mr. Hobson will have overall publisher responsibilities for the business. He will lead the growth of digital opportunities for the Asia business, providing a strong sales focus for print and online properties and product development.

Fairfax Media Financial Review Group Chief Executive Officer, Michael Gill announced on Monday the appointment of Mark Hobson as Regional Manager of Fairfax Business Media, Asia.

Fairfax Business Media, Asia, encompasses four magazine titles (MIS Asia, CIO Asia, Computerworld Singapore and Computerworld Malaysia), associated event and online properties and also research business, Fairfax Business Research.

Incumbent Regional Manager of Fairfax Business Media, Asia, Andrew Smart is currently considering a move to the Financial Review Group in Sydney after successfully launching the leading IT enterprise site in Asia and integrating the IDG -licensed titles into the Asia business' product suite. Initially, he will be consulting to the Asia business to ensure a smooth transition.

Effective immediately, Mr. Hobson will have overall publisher responsibilities for the business. He will lead the growth of digital opportunities for the Asia business, providing a strong sales focus for print and online properties and product development. He will be based in Fairfax Business Media's Singapore offices and report to Financial Review Group Strategy Director, Narelle Leong.

Mr. Hobson was previously on a short term online consulting contract with GTA Advertising based in the UK. Prior to that, he was Head of Online for IDG Communications where he was responsible for P&L for 11 websites, including computerworld.com.au, and also launched the highly successful goodgearguide.com.au. He worked closely with the IDG titles in Singapore, running a number of regional programs from Sydney.

Mr. Gill said Mr. Hobson's outstanding record in digital media and innovative approach to new products made him an excellent appointment: "Mark's proven online expertise will be a great asset for our Asia business as we aim to take it to new levels for our audiences and marketers across print, online and numerous other offerings. I am confident that Mark will bring a keen digital sales perspective to the position and drive our strategy of a strengthened footprint in the growing Asian market."

Mr. Hobson holds a BA (Hons) in Economics and Politics from the University of Essex.
