It just goes to show that attractions like the Eden Project in Cornwall can compete with Orlando’s Disney. British holidays are still rated as firm family favourite and can complete with the best of the sun, sea and sand resorts around the world.

From Blackpool to Benidorm and Scarborough to Salou, British seaside towns sit shoulder to shoulder with sunny Med hotspots when it comes to the best family holiday destinations, according to a new poll out today.
Although Florida claimed the number one family holiday spot, Devon, Cornwall, Wales, Blackpool, the Isle of Wight, Norfolk, the Lake District, Dorset and Yorkshire all ranked in the top 20 in a poll of more than 1,200 families carried out by Teletext Holidays (http://www.teletextholidays.co.uk/family).
Victoria Sanders, Teletext Holidays managing director, said: “It just goes to show that attractions like the Eden Project in Cornwall can compete with Orlando’s Disney. British holidays are still rated as firm family favourite and can complete with the best of the sun, sea and sand resorts around the world. Families love holidaying at home because it’s easy to load up the car and drive a few hours up the motorway to find national parks, beaches and theme parks.”
But the lure of guaranteed sunshine, all-inclusive resorts and outdoor swimming pool complexes is still strong for many UK families who voted Florida, Benidorm, Sharm el Sheikh, Salou in Spain, Marmaris in Turkey, Alcudia in Majorca and Tenerife as their all time favourite overseas escapes.
The top 20 family holiday destinations according to British families are:
1. Florida / Orlando
2. Cornwall & Devon
3. Disneyland Paris
5. Sharm el Sheikh
8. Salou / Portaventura, Spain
9. Isle of Wight
10. Marmaris, Turkey
11. Alcudia , Majorca
14. Lake District
