Pearson brought all of this expertise to the table, with both the content and the ability to customize it
Indianapolis, IN (Vocus) May 26, 2010
With current forecasts predicting record demand for home health care workers over the next decade, the Indiana Home and Hospice Care (IHHC) Foundation needed to quickly overhaul its outdated training program in favor of a new, streamlined curriculum.
Working with Pearson Learning Solutions, the IHHC Foundation designed a custom program that focuses on the complex requirements of home care workers and also serves as a career ladder, equipping them with the skills they need to increase their clinical knowledge and advance their careers.
Pearson and the IHHC Foundation created a customized version of Pearson author Elana Zucker’s best-selling textbook, Being a Home Health Aide. The custom approach allowed the foundation to retain the convenience and cost-effectiveness of a single textbook while ensuring students receive the quality learning experience that is the hallmark of IHHC Foundation programs.
The new custom training manual provides a standardized, portable and recognizable curriculum for home care educators and students across the state. With three distinct training modules, including Homemaker/Companion, Personal Care Assistant and Home Health Aide, the custom program offers maximum flexibility for individuals to obtain the necessary education required to be a certified home health aide.
Working with Ivy Tech, the state’s community college system, the customized Pearson manual is used in both the associate degree program and the intensive workforce training course for home care workers. Every student who passes the course is eligible for certification, which the IHHC Foundation administers.
“Pearson brought all of this expertise to the table, with both the content and the ability to customize it,” said Todd Stallings, Executive Director of the IHHC Foundation. “The process to customize this book was as easy as it could be. The idea that our organization could have a truly top notch, professionally-produced training manual is thrilling. It would have been difficult for us to accomplish this on our own.”
“Our partnership with the IHHC Foundation is designed to meet the specific workforce training goals for skilled home health care workers in Indiana,” said Christopher Shenk, Vice President of Pearson Learning Solutions. “We look forward to providing continued support to the foundation and its future workforce development initiatives.”
