The Southwestern Pennsylvania Commission has taken regional collaboration and planning to a whole new level. Through the use of MegaMeeting.com Video and Web Conferencing, The Southwestern Pennsylvania Commission is able to save money, increase productivity, decrease aggravation and enhance their public outreach efforts.
The Southwestern Pennsylvania Commission is responsible for planning and prioritizing the use of all state and federal transportation funds allocated to a 10-county region in Pennsylvania. Meeting every other month they wanted to find a way for the general public and commissioners to attend meetings without requiring them to drive to a physical location. Tom Straw, Multimedia Designer for The Southwestern Pennsylvania Commission said MegaMeeting “has been terrific for us as a means of inviting the public to our meetings without them necessarily having to drive to meeting physical locations; also, commissioners can attend any of our monthly mandatory meetings in this manner.” Mr. Straw goes on to say “In February of 09, we were able to use MegaMeeting to have a virtual meeting about the stimulus package with Senator Bob Casey. He was supposed to fly in for the meeting in Fayette County. Rough weather prevented that, but with MegaMeeting, he could be "at" the meeting anyway.”
Currently, MegaMeeting is used only to broadcast a portion of their meetings, but in the near future they plan on using MegaMeeting to record and broadcast all their meetings. Member counties have been given hardware and software logins so they may conduct their own webcasts using the built-in features MegaMeeting offers such as live video, built-in VoIP, screen sharing and the ability to show PowerPoint presentations.
Tom Straw also stated “MegaMeeting is easy to use and affordable, but most importantly, the people within the company are simply the best in the biz. Technical and even moral support is there 24/7--never a phone maze, never a delay, never a hassle. I would recommend them to anyone.”
