The Norman Course at Lansdowne Resort is a women-friendly layout with multiple sets of tees and generous fairways to accommodate a broad range of female golfers.
Leesburg, VA (Vocus) May 27, 2010
Lansdowne Resort, the premier private golf facility in the Mid-Atlantic, has just announced the perfect women’s golf getaway for women who want to polish their game, and their nails, with their golfing buddies…their girlfriends.
Greg Norman says, “The Norman Course at Lansdowne Resort is a women-friendly layout with multiple sets of tees and generous fairways to accommodate a broad range of female golfers. All of the par three holes measure less than 150 yards in length from the forward tee, allowing shorter hitters to reach the green on their tee shot.”
Greg points out how the Lansdowne’s course is women-friendly:
- Multiple sets of tees with a range of yardage options
- Par 3s reachable from the forward tees
- Most fairway bunkers out of reach on par 4 and 5 tee shots
- Short grass bailout areas around the greens allow for a range of shot options including putting, chipping and bump-and-run
- Generous fairway widths
- No forced carries from the forward tees on par 4s and 5s
The Pink Pampered Putter provides guests the opportunity to play The Golf Club at Lansdowne’s 45 exceptional holes, highlighted by two championship 18-hole layouts, the RTJ II (Robert Trent Jones, Jr.) course and The (Greg) Norman Course. As an added bonus, women may enjoy the Shark Bite, a 9-hole short course also designed by Australian golf legend, Greg Norman. The Pink Pampered Putter package is the ultimate girls’ getaway allowing women to play golf on a pro-course, with all the amenities.

Here’s a closer look at the three courses:
The Norman Course: The front nine runs west along the Potomac River toward Goose Creek and is host to, according to Norman, “the hardest mile in golf”, which is made up of holes six through nine. The back nine runs east along the Potomac River, parallel to Nos. 16 through 18 of the RTJII course. Golf Magazine named it one of the top 10 “Best New Courses” in 2005. Forward tees: 5,371 yards.
RTJ II Course: With views of the Virginia countryside, this par-72, layout incorporates fields, woodlands, natural stone outcroppings and historic rock walls dating back to the 1800s. While friendly, the strategic layout will test the skills of both the accomplished and novice golfer. Forward tees: 5,165 yards.
Shark Bite 9: The short course runs adjacent to Norman’s 18-hole course and is longer and more challenging than most traditional nine-hole courses. The par-32 course features five sets of tees ranging from 2,319 to 860 yards.
The Golf Club at Lansdowne also features a superb, a double-sided driving range, three large putting greens and a short-game area to hone your skills before or after the rounds. Lansdowne Resort, a AAA, Four Diamond Award recipient, is attached to the Golf Club and both are located 45 minutes from Washington, DC and eight miles from Dulles International Airport. Golf play at The Golf Club of Lansdowne is reserved for club members and resort guests only, with resort guests enjoying daily access to one of the two 18-hole courses on a rotating basis.
