Jersey City, NJ (PRWEB) May 27, 2010
AvePoint, the leading provider of infrastructure management software solutions for Microsoft SharePoint, today announced that the University of Florida (UF), one of the world's leading institutions of higher learning, is using DocAve to protect its Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 content and infrastructure, manage and administer its users and settings, and optimize its storage resources and performance. Using DocAve, the University has been able to robustly protect its SharePoint content, diligently govern and audit end-user activity, extend SharePoint's storage beyond the SQL database to tiered storage, and automate the lifecycle management of every object within its SharePoint environment - from authorship through to disposition.
"We are proud that DocAve has enabled the University of Florida to fully embrace SharePoint Server 2010 as its unified information management platform", said John Hodges, Product Manager at AvePoint. "The platform offers unparalleled new features to help organizations revolutionize their business processes. With our tools to protect, manage, integrate, and optimize SharePoint Server 2010, organizations can take full advantage of the platform without worrying about the security of their data, or how difficult it will be to manage and govern the platform."
Overcoming SharePoint Management Challenges with DocAve
Early on in the University's plan to consolidate its deployment of SharePoint Server 2010, the university ran into several challenges. First, with a small SharePoint administration team and an end-user base in the thousands, managing the myriad permissions and securities using native SharePoint administration tools were too laborious and prone to human error. Second, the amount of data being centralized into the new system could become a heavy burden for its SQL server, potentially affecting the scalability and performance of the platform. Third, SharePoint's native backup and restore functionality, in terms of both restoration speed and granularity, were deemed unacceptable given the Service Level Agreements administrators had agreed upon with University management.
The University deployed the DocAve Software Platform - AvePoint's award-winning SharePoint infrastructure management solution comprised of more than 25 independently deployable modules and piloted via a unified, browser-based interface - to address their SharePoint management and protection needs. According to University administrators, it has proved a good decision. "The DocAve Software Platform enabled us to address all of our management, protection, and optimization needs via a single, intuitive console - with an extremely responsive support team to back it up", said Michael Buchholz, SharePoint Lead at UF.
With DocAve, the University of Florida can now:
- Quickly restore accidentally deleted or corrupted SharePoint content without disrupting business productivity;
- Swiftly restore its production SharePoint environment with minimal manual effort or risk of human-error;
- Ensure proactive governance via the centralized administration of all users, configurations, permissions, and settings throughout the environment;
- Automate the lifecycle of all SharePoint content, via the business-rule driven offloading of dormant and BLOB SharePoint content to tiered storage, improving performance and scalability of the platform while ensuring adherence with University data retention policies;
- Utilize SharePoint as the presentation and management layer for all network file share content, without the need for migration.
