"Jelly " … a smart and original Romantic Comedy is coming out this year. It is a testament to the far-reaching influence of John Hughes movies.
The original screenplay was penned by Sarah Louise Wilson, (who also stars as Jelly) a twenty-something who is on the quest to get her quintessential John Hughes movie moment!
The movie stars a diverse cast: Natasha Lyonne (American Pie, Slums of Beverly Hills, 13, All About Evil) Reginald Vel Johnson (Die Hard, Family Matters) John Boyd (24, Mercy) Mercedes LeAnza (The Next Race), Hayley Marie Norman (Fired Up), Steve Talley (American Pie, Van Wilder, Southern Discomfort) Julie Cobb, Rick Overton.
"Jelly " is also Ed McMahon's and David Groh's final movie appearances. "Jelly ", had its North American Premiere at the San Diego Black Film Festival to a sold out theatre. The film will have its International Premiere, at the Tunis International Film Festival, then it will screen at a few more festivals before it gets it release this summer.
John Hughes, as a young Chicago filmmaker, shared his unique High School experiences in his 80’s cult classics, “Sixteen Candles” “Some kind of Wonderful” and “Pretty in Pink”. It was the honest, offbeat nature of his characters that is so appealing and relevant today. All though his films focused on the angst of the white middle class teen, his characters real life struggles spoke to the multi ethnic demographic of then and now.
