The CrossFit Games, known as the ultimate test of fitness where the winners are deemed "World's Fittest Man" and "World's Fittest Woman" will be held July 16th -18th, 2010 at the Home Depot Center Sports Complex in Carson, CA. Previous Games have been held in the more remote Aromas, CA where competitors transformed a sleepy rural town into their own high-octane playground year after year during the grueling three-day fitness competition. Last year, people from more than 149 countries travelled to Aromas to attend The Games. In 2010, The Games will be bigger, better, and even more challenging.
After hosting the Socal Sectionals for the CrossFit Games in March, CrossFit LA owner Andy Petranek is thrilled to welcome the 2010 CrossFit Games to Los Angeles, " It will be amazing to experience the intense energy that comes with The Games unleashed on a metropolitan city like LA. The CrossFit Games are the Olympics of fitness and I am thrilled to have my home city host all of these world class athletes." At 43, Petranek was the oldest man to qualify for last years CrossFit Games. This year there will be 30 "Masters Competitors"- elite CrossFitters over the age 50- competing in a separate category.
With sectional competitions held in more than 37 cities over six continents, and an additional 13 regional competitions held all over the world, nearly 5000 of CrossFit's most elite athletes tried out for the competition but only 100 individual athletes will continue to compete at The Games. There will also be 100 teams representing affiliates from all over the world who will compete in a separate event. Over 8000 spectators are expected to attend.
The 2010 Games will have five main competitions: Men's Individual, Women's Individual, Affiliate Cup Teams, Men's Masters and Women's Masters (over 50). The winners of the individual competitions will each receive $25,000 cash, sponsored by PROGENEX.
Despite being called "the toughest workout ever" by Muscle & Fitness Magazine, CrossFit continues to be the fastest growing movement in fitness worldwide. CrossFit is characterized by constantly varied functional movements performed at a high intensity, no two workouts are the same. CrossFit has become the official workout program of many police academies, tactical operations teams, special military ops, champion martial artists, and hundreds of other elite and professional athletes worldwide.
