Back in the spring of 2008, local entrepreneurs Mark Jones and Scott Taylor sensed that the world of recruitment was changing. Quite simply, the recruitment industry was becoming more and more reliant on online media for advertising and steering away from offline activities.

Indeed, online recruitment is the fastest growing and largest advertising sector with more than half of the UK population now using the web on a regular basis and around 6 million of these users looking towards job boards and CV tools for their next career move. No other medium comes close to giving anywhere near that sort of exposure to the potential job seeker.

Following some intensive market research, the pair hatched a plan to bring the best online resources to the independent recruiter through an all-purpose trade only platform and recruitersite.co.uk was born.

Over the next 18 months, with no road map to guide the newly formed recruitersite team, Mark and Scott, who have over three decades of recruitment experience between them, started to put together what was going to be a first for the industry - a tool that would give the smaller independent recruiters a real chance to compete with their larger rivals and get their cherished positions onto most of the top online media through a bespoke multi-post tool on a pay-as-you-go basis.

First off, this meant sourcing the best talent in the UK web developing industry to work with them to build ‘something different’.

Then there was the negotiating of resale agreements with the big online media players to consider. This was always going to be tough to achieve, but armed with a firm belief that the SME industry needed a route to the online recruitment advertising market, and after much negotiation, the support was eventually given.

The next stage was to research and develop getting job adverts through to the boards in the best way possible and, more importantly, keep the control of the recruitment process firmly in the hands of the recruiter.

Their development team set about building a bespoke multi-post tool and effective multi-post service that would enable a significant reduction in the time to post adverts to job boards and manage the response from one place. As well as the technical side, Mark and Scott also appreciated that advertising from the site had to be easy and the advertising packages attractive and these were duly put in place.

The final bits of the jigsaw were eventually slotted together in April 2010 and, following extensive testing and market research of what ‘worked’ in the online recruitment arena, recruitersite was launched. Packed full of features including job board applicant tracking, it not only saves recruiters time, money and resources, it gives agencies a competitive advantage and a very powerful recruiting tool. Above all, it helps narrow the divide between the large national recruitment companies and the SMEs.

Mark and Scott made it their mission to bring together the best performing online media in convenient multi-post packages, for one low cost, thus ensuring maximum exposure in the quickest time and at the best cost.

Not bad going during what has been the deepest recession for some considerable time.
